During my first day in Second Life, I believe I have seen more female avatars than male avatars. I am quite certain that the ratio of female gamers against male gamers haven’t increased much in years thus making me conclude that all this female avatars running around acting sexy and all flirty are actually men in real life. OMG! Just picturing the idea of men sitting behind their computers flirting with other men kinda makes me cringe!
I’m sure that there are also many real females in Second Life and, like men, many of them has male avatars but still their numbers will, at present times, not be as many.
Female avatars outnumber male avatars in Second Life and this was based on my observation. My best bet is that many of these female avatars are really men in Real Life. If these men want to be females and run about acting all girly then let them because that’s what makes them happy. As for me, I’ll treat all female avatars as men unless proven otherwise.

Actually SL has a massive population of female gamers. In general there are more female gamers than people realize and specifically there are more women working in the game design industry than people realize. If you treat all female avatars as if they are being piloted by a man then you are setting yourself up for disapointment. Unless your only purpose for interacting with a female avatar is to pursue cyber sex? In which case you portray yourself as painfully shallow. Why not take people at face value and not worry about it. Trust me, you will enjoy the experience much more.
I think it’s better that way since I’m not after sex in Second Life, so treating everyone as one of the guys would be more comfortable for me besides I’ve had experienced in other games where female avatars whom I’ve become friends with confess that they are men and just use the female look to take advantage of other unsuspecting male players.
If you treat and view them as one of the guys then later confess that they are indeed guys then no disappointments and if you find out they are actually women then much better.
Face value in a virtual world really has little value because it can be easily altered.
Like what I’ve said if they are comfortable with playing as the other gender and it makes them happy then let them. I have no problems with that.
To be safe, instead of treating them as men I’ll treat them as people without reference to gender, race, affiliation, nationality or religion. I think that’s fair enough!
