Second Life Camping Websites

I was searching google today using the keywords “second life” and “camping”. Although I did find a lot of articles and blog posts about camping in Second Life but I only saw two websites that features camping and they are SecondLifeCamping.com and Kabalyero.com.

SecondLifeCamping.com has a list of high paying and popular camping locations. I visited some of the places but they’re always full. I don’t know if those camping has somebody controlling them or they’re controlled using a third party program, generally called bots.

While Kabalyero.com is not really about camping but it does feature various camping locations in Second Life and the author also includes a photo of the place. Some of the post are funny like the one about the highest camping rate in Second Life.

I’m sure there are many more websites that list camping locations in Second Life but I’m too lazy to dig differ through Google’s result. In the meantime, I’ll just use these two websites as a reference to some camping locations when I finally decide to leave Help Island.

I Got Paid 1,000 Linden Dollars

I’m so very happy! I logged in to be greeted by an instant message from MastDeal telling me that he just paid me 1,000 linden dollars for the review I posted about SecondAvatar.com. Thank you very much to everyone in SecondAvatar.com.

Now, what would I do with 1,000L$? I don’t want to spend it carelessly because I don’t know when and how I’ll earn something like that again. As a newbie, I’m still learning the ins and outs of Second Life especially the part of making money.

I’m still here at Help Island trying to learn everything I can about Second Life before moving on to other areas or places.

What is Camping in Second Life?

Today, while asking some residents on how to make money in Second Life, I found out about camping. I was told that it was the easiest way for newbies like me to make money or linden dollars in Second Life. So, I went and searched for places that offers camping. Unfortunately, the places I went to where all full.

About the question, what is camping in Second Life? As I understand it from how other residents explained it to me and of course on how I observed it. Camping in Second Life is staying in particular land or parcel long enough to increase its traffic. In Second Life, land traffic is measured on how long residents stayed on your land and not on the number of residents visiting your land in particular period of time. Because of these, land owners place what they call camping objects or devices on their lands. These camping objects pay residents a certain amount of money for sitting on or using it for a predetermined period of time which are called camping rates. Camping rates varies from place to place but the most common rates I saw were 1/10 (1L$ per 10 minutes) and 2/10. I was told that there are even higher rates than the first 2 I mentioned but I still have to find them. Also, there are different camping objects but the most common ones are camping dance pads.

For the meantime, I’ll be doing some camping to get me started in my Second Life but if someone would like to donate some money to me then that would be much better and will be greatly appreciated.

Too Many Female Avatars

During my first day in Second Life, I believe I have seen more female avatars than male avatars. I am quite certain that the ratio of female gamers against male gamers haven’t increased much in years thus making me conclude that all this female avatars running around acting sexy and all flirty are actually men in real life. OMG! Just picturing the idea of men sitting behind their computers flirting with other men kinda makes me cringe!

I’m sure that there are also many real females in Second Life and, like men, many of them has male avatars but still their numbers will, at present times, not be as many.

Female avatars outnumber male avatars in Second Life and this was based on my observation. My best bet is that many of these female avatars are really men in Real Life. If these men want to be females and run about acting all girly then let them because that’s what makes them happy. As for me, I’ll treat all female avatars as men unless proven otherwise.

Got Second Life? You’ll Need Some SecondAvatar Too!

I’m still very new to Second Life and one of the very first Second Life related website or community I came across with is SecondAvatar.com. I chanced upon it while searching for Second Life in Google.

Browsing its pages, SecondAvatar.com is like the MySpace or Friendster of Second Life. Second Life can create profiles, add photos of themselves and they can even create their own blogs.

SecondAvatar.com also sponsors some really cool in-world contests like the Second Life Miss World Pageant, Second Life Mister World Search and Second Life’s Next Top Model. I believe that these contests can really help promote and bring interest to Second Life. It also shows that Second Life is not just about cartoon sex and 3D chat, that Second Life can be expanded beyond what our imagination can ponder.

Joining any of SecondAvatar.com’s contests is very easy. First, you will need to register an account with SecondAvatar.com. For SL Miss World Pageant, after registering a SecondAvatar.com account, you need to register to the gallery feature so you can add your photos. For the SL Mister World search, after registering an account, you need to click SL Mister World located at the top navigation area, select Control Panel, create a New Portfolio and upload your photos under the category “Hunks”. Great prizes, as well as fame, awaits the winners!

Remember, these contests are just bonus features of SecondAvatar.com. Don’t forget that the best thing about SecondAvatar.com is that you’ll be able to meet new residents, make new friends, be updated and informed about the latest happenings in Second Life and even get a some Second Life tips that will enhance your Second Life. SecondAvatar.com gives you all of that and more.

If you are already a Second Life resident then you definitely have to join SecondAvatar.com and if you are not yet a resident then what are you waiting for, join Second Life today!

Help Island, The Place For Newbies Like Me!

One mistake new residents make in Second Life is that they don’t spend enough time at Help Island. Next to the Orientation Island, the Help Island is the best place to get to know Second Life better and to meet new and old Second Life residents. Many of these residents are willing to help you. All you have to do is ask!

New Windlight Viewer

Ho ho ho! Linden Labs released today their newest update to the Windlight First Look Viewer.

Some notes on these bug fixes:

  • You’ll notice that many (possibly all) of the snapshot errors have been taken care of.
  • For the underwater fog problem, we’ve added a new slider called the Underwater Fog Modifier. This allows you to offset the underwater fog amount from its real, physically-accurate depiction to one that’s more fitting to your needs. (Translation - the opacity of the ocean, like the real ocean, looks the way it does from above by looking the way it does from below. But now you can tweak them to be separate- opaque from above, more transparent from below!) We’ve defaulted all the water settings to now be only 25% as opaque underwater as the surface properties above would dictate.

Windlight is an amazing viewer but its high system requirements make it unavailable to many residents. Linden Labs should focus more on the standard viewer and work on Windlight part time.

Age Verfication In Second Life

Linden Labs recently released a new candidate viewer (1.18.6 RC0) and it also include, in that viewer, the beta of Second Life’s latest feature, Age Verification.

Age Verification is a good thing but, don’t be fooled, it’s Linden Labs way of protecting themselves and putting the responsibility to Second Life’s residents.

Some residents even pointed out that Age Verification should be done during sign-up to filter minors from adults, if that’s really what Linden Labs want, since the main grid of Second Life is for adults only but it seems that minors are now welcome in the main grid because if not then they would not need this Age Verification in-world.

Hello Second Life!

A big and warm Hello to everyone and welcome to my blog about how Second Life Rocks. Yes, Second Life Rocks and it will be rocking the internet more. Just wait and see! ;)
